Standard PCB Magazine Unloader for SMT Production Lines

The DEZ Standard PCB Magazine Unloader receives PCBs or PCB assemblies from upstream SMT equipment and stores them sequentially in a compatible slotted magazine.

It is typically installed after an AOI system, reflow process, inspection conveyor or other automated production stage where completed boards must be collected without repeated manual handling.

Five models support PCB sizes from 50 × 80 mm to 610 × 460 mm. The machine provides selectable magazine pitch, pneumatic magazine positioning, left-to-right or right-to-left transfer and SMEMA communication with upstream equipment.

Receive and Store PCBs Automatically

A PCB enters the unloader from the upstream conveyor after receiving the appropriate transfer signal. The machine positions an available magazine slot at conveyor height and moves the incoming board into that slot.

After the PCB has entered the magazine, the lifting platform indexes to the next configured slot. The unloader then waits for the next board from the upstream machine.

When the magazine sequence is complete, the machine changes the active magazine position according to its configured upper and lower magazine-handling cycle.

Process Flow: Upstream SMT Equipment → PCB Receiving Conveyor → Magazine Slot Alignment → PCB Storage → Magazine Indexing

This process creates an organised transition between continuous inline production and batch-based PCB transport.

PCB Magazine Unloader Applications

PCB Collection After AOI Inspection

An unloader can receive inspected PCBAs after an AOI system and store them in magazines for transfer to testing, secondary-side processing or another assembly stage.

End-of-Line PCBA Collection

The machine can collect completed boards at the end of an inline SMT process, reducing the need for an operator to remove every PCBA manually.

Double-Sided SMT Assembly

After the first side has been assembled, PCBAs can be stored in magazines and moved to a loader at the beginning of the second-side production process.

Post-Reflow PCB Handling

Where the unloader is installed after a reflow oven, the PCB should pass through the required cooling stage before entering the magazine.

Selective Soldering Line Collection

PCB assemblies can also be collected after selective soldering, inspection and cooling.

Batch Transfer Between Production Stages

An unloader converts continuous PCB flow into magazine-based batches. The filled magazine can then be moved to testing, coating, secondary assembly or another production area.

PCB Receiving and Magazine Storage

The incoming conveyor receives each PCB from the upstream machine and aligns it with the active magazine slot.

The transfer mechanism must move the board completely into the magazine without striking components, damaging the board edge or leaving the PCB partially exposed. Conveyor height, rail width, magazine position and transfer gap therefore need to be aligned during installation.

For populated PCB assemblies, the following details are particularly important:

  • Maximum component height above and below the PCB
  • Magazine slot clearance
  • PCB edge clearance
  • Board rigidity and warpage
  • Protruding connectors or irregular board outlines
  • Maximum board and assembly weight

FAQs by PCB Unloader

What is a PCB Magazine Unloader?

A PCB Magazine Unloader receives boards from an SMT or PCB assembly line and stores them sequentially in a slotted magazine.

It is normally installed after AOI, reflow cooling, inspection, selective soldering or another inline production stage.

A loader removes PCBs from a magazine and feeds them into the line. An unloader receives PCBs from the line and stores them in a magazine.

Five listed models support PCB sizes from 50 × 80 mm to 610 × 460 mm.

Yes. The unloader can collect boards after first-side assembly so the magazine can later be transferred to a loader for the second-side process.

PCB range, magazine size, pitch, transfer direction, conveyor height and selected control functions can be reviewed for customisation.
