SMT Nozzle Cleaning Machine

A blocked pick-and-place nozzle can cause low vacuum, repeated pickup attempts, dropped components and placement alarms. The nozzle may appear clean externally while dust or adhesive remains inside its narrow suction passage.
The DEZ automatic SMT nozzle cleaning machine uses controlled purified-water jets and compressed air to clean internal and external nozzle contamination. It allows the nozzle to be cleaned, dried and tested before replacement or further placement-head maintenance.

DEZ SMT nozzle cleaning machines remove dust, adhesive and component debris from pick-and-place nozzles to restore vacuum pickup and reduce placement errors.

Nozzle Contamination and Pickup Failure

SMT nozzles repeatedly contact components, trays, tape pockets and packaging materials. Dust, adhesive, component debris and dried deposits can gradually restrict the suction opening.

Reduced airflow may prevent the nozzle from lifting a component or holding it securely during high-speed movement. The result can be mispicks, dropped components, repeated pickup attempts and machine alarms.

These symptoms are not always caused by the placement head or vacuum pump. If the same fault follows a nozzle when it is moved to another compatible head, the nozzle should be cleaned and tested before more extensive machine maintenance is performed.

Automatic Nozzle Cleaning Machine for SMT

The Automatic Nozzle Cleaning Machine for SMT – DEZ-C700 cleans dust, adhesive and component debris from SMT pick-and-place nozzles. Supports precision nozzles used for components including 0402, 0201, 01005 and 03015.

The standard tray holds up to 30 nozzles. Three cleaning jets process ten rows sequentially using industrial purified water and compressed air. The controlled process cleans narrow suction passages without inserting needles or metal wires into the nozzle openings.

SMT Nozzle Cleaning Process

Compatible nozzles are inspected for mechanical damage and loaded into the nozzle tray. Three jets then process the nozzles row by row, using purified water and compressed air to remove contamination from the internal passages.

Used water and removed particles are directed to the collection system. After cleaning, every nozzle must be completely dried, visually inspected and tested for vacuum performance before returning to the pick-and-place machine.

The main process is:

Nozzle Inspection → Tray Loading → Purified-Water Jet Cleaning → Particle Collection → Drying → Vacuum Testing

Clean Fine Nozzles Without Inserting Metal Tools

Fine SMT nozzles have small suction openings that are difficult to clean manually. Inserting needles, drill bits or metal wires into these openings can enlarge the hole, damage the internal surface or deform the nozzle tip.

The DEZ-C700 uses controlled liquid jets instead of inserting a solid cleaning tool into the suction passage. This is particularly useful for precision nozzles used with small components.

Cleaning pressure should remain within the approved machine setting. Increasing pressure is not the correct solution for a worn nozzle, an incompatible tray or a deposit that is not soluble in the selected cleaning process.

Blocked Stencil Apertures

A nozzle cleaning machine cannot remove dried solder paste from SMT stencil apertures. Use the Pneumatic Stencil Cleaning Machine – DEZ-C730 for compatible single-stencil solvent cleaning.

When two compatible stencils need to be processed in one cycle, consider the Pneumatic Stencil Cleaning Machine – DEZ-C780.

Contaminated Fixtures and Squeegees

Soldering pallets, fixtures, carriers, trays and printer squeegees require a different cleaning system. The Automatic SMT Fixture Cleaning Machine – DEZ-C756 uses compatible washing, rinsing and drying processes for production tooling.

FAQs Nozzle Cleaning Machine

What does an SMT nozzle cleaning machine remove?

It removes compatible dust, adhesive, component debris and deposits from the internal and external surfaces of pick-and-place nozzles. The DEZ-C700 uses purified-water jets and compressed air.

Can the DEZ-C700 clean every nozzle brand?

Usually, it is possible. Send nozzle models, drawings or samples so DEZ can confirm tray compatibility.

Can the machine clean nozzles for 01005 components?

The DEZ-C700 supports compatible precision nozzles used with 01005 components. The specific nozzle dimensions and tray position must be confirmed before ordering.

Can tap water be used?

Tap water is not recommended. Minerals can remain inside fine suction passages and affect the cleaned nozzle. Use industrial purified or properly filtered water according to the machine requirement.

Can wet nozzles be returned directly to the placement machine?

No. Nozzles must be completely dried, inspected and tested before reinstallation. Remaining moisture can affect vacuum readings or enter the placement head.

Why are some nozzles still blocked after cleaning?

The nozzle may not align with the cleaning jet, the deposit may not be water-soluble, or the nozzle may be mechanically damaged. Check tray compatibility before increasing pressure or repeating the cycle.

Why does a cleaned nozzle still have weak vacuum?

Check that the nozzle is completely dry and correctly installed. If the problem remains, inspect the nozzle tip, holder, O-ring, filter and placement-head vacuum path.

Can DEZ test our nozzles before machine selection?

Yes. Send representative contaminated nozzles and their model information. DEZ can check tray fit, cleaning response and post-cleaning condition before confirming the machine configuration.
